Quick Question (It's about cooking)

Because you all know I don't do that. :)

I need help. Our pots and pans have run their course and we're currently looking for new ones. I'm willing to spend a little dough to get some nice ones. Any ideas? Does anyone just LOVE their cookware and want to share where they got it?

Requirements:

Pans must not warp - I like all edges of my pans firmly upon the stove.
I'm thinking I like non-stick, but Teflon kind of scares me
they can be put on the dishwasher (not a must, but a nice option)

Go to a restaurant supply store (there should be a few in Baltimore and D.C.) and buy them individually there. That way you get high quality pots and pans (that are super durable) but you don't pay for the brand name, the fancy box and you don't get any sizes you don't need/want.

Stainless steel is best--you just have to oil them up well to keep things from sticking. If you have a ceramic (smooth) top stove, avoid cast iron.

Just be warned, when you're in a restaurant supply store, you suddenly NEED everything you see. They're kind of addicting, even if you don't like cooking.

P.S. If you can find Saladmaster brand pots and pans, they're amazing. My mother spent $500 on a set in 1973 and they still look (and work) like new even though they've been used daily for 36 years. I'm not sure that they make them anymore, though.

Yes, they do still make Salad Master. Go to Saladmaster.com I am sure the price has gone up since I bought mine but it was truly an investment. They are guarenteed for the life of pans which means as long as they are in use. So if I leave them to Brandi then she leaves them to Amelia they will still be covered. When I bought mine they would come to your house and prepare a meal for you and your guests to demonstrate how to use them. You can actually cook waterless in them and there is a dome for the dutch oven that allows you to cook a roast, vegetables and a cake all in the same pan. I also still use the electric fry pan which makes awesome fried chicken without oil or any batter on the chicken.

Ariella, I believe your mother-in-law still has her Saladmaster pots and pans which she received from her mother.

Alrighty! Woohoo. Thanks everyone. It looks like saladmaster is the way to go. I may just have to "host a dinner."

Heck, a dinner that I don't have to cook AND they'll clean up...Everyone's invited. :)

My girlfriend Amy has saladmaster pots and pans. They are nice. I still use my caphalon that I bought about 11 years ago. Whatever you do, make sure you have a good nonstick pan for eggs. That's one essential thing in our house. Good luck!

I recently purchased a new set from Costco... Circulon brand. And I love them! I do have some Saladmaster, mom and grandma Porter still use theirs. Mom has had hers since her wedding... first one that is. But I love these new pans. They are not teflon but are non stick and clean up like a dream. I know that stainless is supposedly the best... I just didn't like the thought of using oil to make them less sticking.

We got a new set from Costco as well. It may have been the Circulon brand. They are non-stick which I love and they are nice and heavy. Good quality. I would suggest at least a couple not-stick pans like Marianne said for certain things.
Good luck.
